Day Care Centres
Day Care Centres provide a social and recreational outlet for people whose age,
isolation and/or disability prevents or inhibits fuller participation in the community.
They aim to cater for a wide variety of needs and interests. Most day care centres can
provide transport to and from the centre. A small charge is made for lunch and morning
tea. Hours of opening are usually form 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. Days of opening vary between
centres. Day Care Centres usually cater for the Local Government Area (LGA) in which they
are situated. Dementia Day Care Centres provide special care and support for people
diagnosed with memory problems. Some ethnic specific groups are run out of the Macarthur
Migrant Resource Centre. Usually an Assessment is conducted prior to a person joining the
centre. More specific information can be obtained by contacting the Day Care Centre
Co-ordinators. Referrals can also be made directly to the Day Care Centres.
