Occupational Therapists Paediatric – Community Health

See Preschool and Primary School children who have difficulty with:

• ·        Hand skills, Play skills

• ·        Getting dressed

• ·        Cutting and drawing

• ·        Handwriting

• ·        Using a knife and fork

• ·        Organising themselves

• ·        Coordination and clumsiness

 Speech Pathologists Paediatric – Community Health

See children aged from 12 months old to the end of Year 2 at school within normal or mild ranges of intelligence.  Referrals can be made for children with:

• ·        Speech sound errors (articulation/phonology disorders)

• ·        Receptive (comprehension) and/or expressive (talking) language disorders

• ·        Stuttering

• ·        Voice difficulties

• ·        Pre-reading skills (e.g. identifying sounds, rhyme etc)

Projects and Programs

• Early Childhood Outreach Services: This project has a focus on children (3-5 years) who have speech and communication difficulties, mild developmental delays, motor and coordination problems. Inservices and handouts are provided. Preschools in Macarthur can apply for this project annually.
• Early Learning and Behaviour Project: This is a joint project between Health and Education. A clinical psychologist works with Itinerant Support Teachers (Learning and Behaviour) to help preschool children with severe behaviour problems with the transition from preschool to school.
• Playing and Learning Together Program: This is a joint Health and Education program. A clinical psychologist works with Itinerant Support Teachers (Learning and Behaviour) to help Kindergarten children with severe behaviuor problems at school and at home. One school in Macarthur receives this program annually.
• Teamwork Project in Schools: This is a school based project that provides a therapy service to children aged 5-12 years who have a language, motor and/or perceptual learning difficulty. A speech pathologist and occupational therapist provide assessments, intervention, consultation and training and development activities. Two schools in Campbelltown receive this project annually.
• SPOT Chat Clinics: Spot Chat clinics offer a drop-in service for parents of children with speech and communication difficulties, mild developmental delays, motor and coordination problems, learning difficulties and bevaiour problems. Clinics are held at various venus across Macarthur. More information
• Tharawal Project: This is a speech pathology service that is provided to children attending Ooranga Wandarrah Child Care Centre.
