Coopers Cottage Drug and Alcohol Service

This service provides a methadone facility to the local community and includes a drugs in pregnancy service, medical assessment and support, education groups for clients and liaison with WILMA and other Macarthur Health Service arms.

Activities include producing a monthly newsletter, an expanded drugs in pregnancy program, hepatitis screening, liaison with pharmacists and GPs to provide further avenues for methadone dispensing and prescribing, a home detoxification service, an inservice program for staff, and links to other services such as Browne St Mental Health Service, Odyssey House, Tharawal, Maryfields and WILMA.

Drug and Alcohol Counselling Team

Counsellors assess, refer and counsel people with all kinds of drug and alcohol problems. They also work in community projects and provide community education and hospital support to inpatients. Methadone and needle and syringe exchange services are available.

Some current activities are: an integrated committee to address drug and alcohol services in Claymore: a partnership with Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation to supply training and support to workers there: a project targeting the safe disposal of needles and syringes in Macarthur.

Services include: an assessment, counselling and group work program for the local community, an assessment program in conjunction with Campbelltown Probation and Parole Service which permits supervised individuals to receive prompt assessment: groups dealing with alcohol and other drug awareness, women's health, depression, problem gambling and smoking management: education, training and support to those who work with people affected by alocohol and other drugs: a home detoxification service: a needle and syringe program at Wollondilly Community Health Centre: an outreach needle and syringe program across Macarthur: an amalgamation of the Counselling Team with the Coopers Cottage Methadone Program.

Holyoake NSW Institute of Alcohol and Drug Addictions

Provides a 12 week co-dependency course aimed at helping adults cope with living with someone else's addictions, e.g. alcohol, drugs or other addictive behaviours. Subjects discussed in small group situations include grief, self-esteem, care taking, and family dynamics.

Viral Hepatitis Clinic - Liverpool Hospital

A clinic specifically dedicated to patients with viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and C) conducted at Liverpool Hospital Outpatients. Two gastroenterologists with sub-specialty in hepatology conduct the clinic, Dr Amany Zekry and Dr Miriam Levy. Other specialist staff will include nurses specialising in hepatology.

The aim of the clinic is to rpovide a service to patients with hepatitis in the form of:
- clinical assessment
- education and counselling
- introducing antiviral therapy to suitable patients
- follow up and monitoring for specific complications
- appropriate referral to the liver transplant unit

The clinic supports shared care models, managing the patients with the referring general practitioner.

Macarthur RIDE

RIDE is a drug and alcohol support service for young people (12-18 years) in the Macarthur region. RIDE is case management focussed, concentrating on early intervention for at risk persons. RIDE offers information, resources and co-ordinates with families and other services. Individual strategies are worked out for each client. Referrals are informal. The service is free and confidential. RIDE is auspiced by UnitingCare Burnside (an agency of the Uniting Church in Australia), and is funded through the Getting It Together Scheme of the Department of Community Services.

Maryfields Day Recovery Centre

Day recovery centre for addictions in alcohol, other drugs and gambling. It is a 10 week program involving group therapy, education and one on one counselling. Holistic approach assisted by transitional care program. Operated by St Vincent de Paul, Wollongong Diocese. In partnership with Mission Employment, Coopers Cottage and Credit Line to provide key components on employment preparation, health and financial education. Also conducts a Family Program.

Criteria for Admission
- Over 18 years of age
- Must be detoxed (We can assist with a referral)
- Clients on methadone accepted on 5ml with a reduction regime.
- Suitability for program determined through an assessment interview.

Self and other agency referrals accepted over the phone during office hours Monday to Friday. Assessments are conducted on Mondays by appointment. Maryfields provides a pick up and drop off service to and from Campbelltown Station. The cost of the program is $130, $50 being payable on admission and the remainder payable over the 10 weeks.

The South Western SydneyArea Gastroenterology & Hepatology Service refers to a team of gastroenterology and hepatology specialists dedicated to serving the south-western Sydney area. The aims of SWAGS are to:
- Provide inpatient management and outpatient consultation for GI and liver problems
- Provide information to general practitioners and members of the community and to organise educational activities
- Research digestive diseases through laboratory-based science and clinical trials
- Set the standard of GI practice with evidence based medicine and establish management protocols

SWSAHS Drug and Alcohol Centre

The Centre is part of the SWSAHS. Provides referral for people with drug and alcohol problems by phone or in person by appointment. Advice can be given to relatives or friends regarding someone else's drug use. Clinic held once a week for assessment and referral and a drugs and pregnancy service is also available. Support and consultation is available to professional groups such as general practitioners and health workers.
Drug and Alcohol Services throughout SWSAHS are coordinated by the centre, which also includes prevention and community education programs. Drug and alcohol assessment, counselling and referral are also available at Ingleburn, Campbelltown and Narellan Community Health Centres.
