TraXside Youth Health Service
This is a special service for young people aged 12 to 25 years, and those who work with
young people. The service provides general counselling, drug and alcohol couselling, a
nurses clinic, support groups, health promotion and education, special projects (e.g.
music projects, community garden, excursions, camps), a needle syringe program, immediate
support from a worker on duty (no appointment required), free internet access centre, and
a mobile outreach van and other resources. There is a branch at Wollondilly.
Support groups include groups for young gays and lesbians.
Some special projects in 2001 were: Beanbag Net Centre, concerning the Internet,
the Youth Garden, concerning growing vegetables and flowers, and Primal Energy,
concerning rural suicide prevention. Partnerships operating were the Claymore TAFE
Outreach, in which students study for Year 10 in conjunction with workers from
Claymore Youth Centre, monthly psychiatric clinics in conjunction with Macarthur
Mental Health Service, and the Sexual Assault Survivors Group in conjunction with
the Macarthur Sexual Assault Team. Free activities include yoga, art and theatre groups.
Gaining Ground Adolescent Program: A group program for young people between 12-18
years who live with someone with a mental illness.
Clinical Services: include Pap smears, contraception information, HIV testing, free
Hepatitis B vaccination. No Medicare card required.

Burnside
Services
Provides a range of services to support families and children where there is a risk of
abuse, and yound people who are at risk of abuse and/or homelessness. The primary focus is
the safety of children and young people, and supporting prople to achieve their goals for
change, on a long term basis.
The Drum
Information, referral and practical support for young people who are at risk of abuse or
homelessness. Services include youth worker support both individually and in groups,
showers, lockers, mailing addresses, computer facilities, family mediation.
Ace Aftercare / Leaving Care Service
Provides a range of support for young people who have been in care, including practical
assistance, referral and advocacy, supported housing for young people aged 15 to 25.
Study Centres
Provide tutoring and youth worker support for young people at risk in selected high
schools (Airds, Ambarvale, Minto and Picton).
Substitute Care
Alternative care options for young people who are unable to live with their families.
Family Services
Teams of family workers, early childhood workers and counsellors operate in defined areas
(Claymore, Airds/Ambarvale/Rosemeadow and Minto/Ingleburn) to provide support for
families, including home visiting and groupwork, in response to identified needs.
Intensive family based service provides an intensive, home based, time limited
intervention for families referred by the Department of Community Services. The primary
focus of family services is the prevention of abuse of children, and assisting families so
that children can remain safely at home. Specific programs are developed to meet the needs
of clients and communities.

Wollondilly Youth Services Network
Wollondilly Youth Services Network is an information, referral, supprt and advocacy
service for young people 11-18 years and their parents. Youth workers are available to
work with young people to assist with education options, employment assistance and
vacation activities. A Family Liaison Worker assists parents of teenagers (11-16 years)
through morning drop in, monthly workshops about stress, credit/debit, relaxation,
parenting teenagers and a bi-monthly newsletter Parents Line. A Youth Worker works with
young people 11-16 years. An Outreach Worker works with young people 11-18 years.
